Hankins said without the skills he learned during physical training with his recruiting station, he doesn’t know how he would have been able to save the man. Hankins used the fireman carry, a carry used during a Marine Combat Fitness Test, to get the man to safety.

Gunnery Sgt. Douglas L. McGlothlin, the staff non-commissioned officer in charge of Recruiting Sub-Station Salisbury, was recently awarded SNCOIC of the year by Marine Corps Recruiting Command. McGlothlin, a native of Waldorf, Md., has contracted and sent 141 qualified men and women to Marine Corps recruit training since he became the SNCOIC of RSS Salisbury in December 2010. - Gunnery Sgt.
