Gunnery Sgt. Derel Carpenter, operations chief for Recruiting Station Cleveland, and an Amherst, Ohio native, explains to local high schools coaches the importance of practicing in the same way you play during his speaking session at the Cleveland Glazier Clinic, Feb. 28, at the Bertram Inn and Conference Center in Aurora, Ohio. During his session, Carpenter offered to coaches the opportunity to have local recruiters in the area come out to their schools and run them through a combat fitness test, followed by a guided discussion on leadership. Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets from Phoebus High School perform in front of Staff Sgt. Rodricus Goines, a Charlottesville, Virginia native, and Staff Sgt. Kiel Lough a Parkersburg, West Virginia native, recruiters from Recruiting Sub-Station Richmond South, during a drill competition, Feb. 14. The competition was between 10 different MCJROTC units from high schools throughout Virginia and Maryland.
