Howard University Men’s Basketball Coach Kevin Nickelberry celebrates after completing his turn at low crawling under a group of Mid-East Atlantic Conference Youth Basketball Clinic participants in “building the house,” March 7, 2015. Building the house is a team-building exercise where members of the team get in a modified push up position and create a tunnel while one member crawls under them and then places themselves in the modified push up position at the end as the next team member crawls under. While many of the exercise stations in the clinic focused on building basketball fundamentals and skills, the Marines station focused on building camaraderie and leadership. Nickelberry took a break from instructing shooting techniques to participate in the Marines exercises. The clinic, held at Norfolk State University, kicks off the MEAC basketball tournament and builds positive community relations with the Marines, universities and youth basketball league players in the Norfolk area.
