Howard University Men’s Basketball Coach Kevin Nickelberry and U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Michael Taft, an officer selection assistant for Officer Selection Station Norfolk, cheer on a group of Mid-East Atlantic Conference Youth Basketball Clinic participants “in building the house,” March 7, 2015. Building the house is a team-building exercise where members of the team get in a modified push up position and create a tunnel while one member crawls underneath and then places themselves in the modified push up position at the end as the next team member crawls under. While many of the exercise stations in the clinic focused on building basketball fundamentals and skills, the Marines station focused on building camaraderie and leadership. The clinic, held at Norfolk State University, kicks off the MEAC Basketball tournament and builds positive community relations with the Marines, universities and youth basketball league players in the Norfolk area.
