U.S. Marine Corps Brigadier General David Furness, left, Legislative Assistant to the Commandant of the Marine Corps, is welcomed to Meadowbrook High School by members of the school’s Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, Nov. 7, 2013. Furness, who is a native of Chesterfield, Va., spoke to JROTC units from Meadowbrook, Manchester and Thomas Dale High Schools about leadership and military service. Furness returned to accept a Bravo Award from the Chesterfield Public Education Foundation, which recognizes outstanding achievement by graduates from Chesterfield County Public Schools, but also took the opportunity to volunteer to speak at local high schools.
