Bryan Nygaard, Marketing and Public Affairs representative for Recruiting Station Baltimore, stands outside of the Defense Information School with his wife Christina following the Thomas Jefferson Awards presentation at Fort George G. Meade, Md. on May 10, 2013. Nygaard received the Thomas Jefferson Award for best Personality Feature. The award is given annually by the Department of Defense to service members who display excellence in journalism. Nygaard, a native of Ocala, Fla., won the award for an article titled “Illinois Corpsman works with Combat Engineers, proves his worth in Garmsir” which he wrote while deployed with II Marine Expeditionary Force in Afghanistan.
