Major Sanko graduated from Waynesburg University in May of 2012. He commissioned in May 2012 and checked into The Basic School in April of 2013. Upon graduation he was assigned the MOS of 0302 Infantry Officer and reported to Infantry Officer Course 2-14. He graduated Infantry Officer Course in March 2014 and reported to 2d Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment at Camp Lejeune, NC.
From 2014-2015 he served as a platoon commander for Easy Company, 2d Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment for a deployment to Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force, Crisis Response, Africa Command as a part of the Security Force and Theater Security Cooperation Company. From 2015-2016, he served as the Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon Commander for Weapons Company and deployed to United States Pacific Command as part of the Unit Deployment Program-East.
In September of 2016 Major Sanko received orders to The Basic School, Quantico, VA. He served as the Weapons Platoon Commander for Combat Instructor Battalion while concurrently executing the duties of a Warfighting Instructor. In September 2017 he was assigned as a Staff Platoon Commander for Company F, Basic Officer Course. In March 2018 he was assigned as an instructor at the Infantry Officer Course. In August of 2019 Major Sanko received orders to Expeditionary Warfare School, Quantico, VA.
Following graduation from Expeditionary Warfare School in May of 2020, Major Sanko received orders to Fox Company, 2d Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment. He served as Fox Company Commander for a deployment in support of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force, Crisis Response, Central Command as the Security Force Commander at the Baghdad Embassy Compound, Baghdad, Iraq. Following this deployment he served as the Operations Officer, 2d Battalion, 1st Marines.
In February of 2023 Major Sanko received orders to Recruiting Station Cleveland where he is currently serving as the Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Cleveland.
