Sergeant Major Ryan N. McCrary

Sergeant Major McCrary is from Fredericksburg, Virginia.  He enlisted into the Marine Corps in 2002 and upon completion of Personnel Administrative School he was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of 0151, Administrative Clerk.

         After completing his basic school, he reported to 4th Marine Regiment, Okinawa, Japan.  During this tour, he deployed to Thailand in support of Cobra Gold and the Philippines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  During this time he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Private First Class. At the end of this duty, he received orders to Weapons Training Battalion, Quantico, Virginia.

         From 2005 to 2007, Sergeant Major McCrary served as Administrative Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge of the Battalion S-1.  During this tour, he completed Corporals Course and Sergeants Course and then received orders to Drill Instructor School class 1-08, MCRD San Diego, California.

         Sergeant Major McCrary completed Drill Instructor School in December 2008 where he was assigned as a Drill Instructor with Company H.  He completed 10 cycles serving as a Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, and Senior Drill Instructor.  During this tour, he was selected as the Regimental Drill Instructor of the Quarter, Battalion Drill Instructor of the Quarter, and Gunny Nichols award recipient for the best new Drill Instructor.  After a successful tour, Sergeant Major McCrary was selected for Staff Sergeant and received orders to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28, aboard Cherry Point, North Carolina.

         From 2010 to 2013, Sergeant Major McCrary served as the Squadron Administrative Chief.  He attended the Advanced Administrative Specialist Course and Career Course where he was selected as the Honor Graduate.  In 2012, he was selected to serve on an Advisor Team where he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Sergeant Major McCrary returned from deployment in November 2013 and received orders to the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Quantico, Virginia for duty.

         Upon checking into the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Seregant Major McCrary attended the Faculty Advisor Course and was assigned to instruct at Sergeants Course.  During this tour,  he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant, instructed 9 Sergeants Course classes, served as the Corporals Course cadre for the East Coast, Faculty Advisor, and Chief Faculty Advisor for Sergeants Course.  First Sergeant McCrary also served as Sergeant Instructor and Platoon Sergeant during 4 summer cycles at Officer Candidate School.  In 2016, Sergeant Major McCrary was screened and selected to serve as the Operations Chief for the office of the 18th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps.

         From 2016 to 2019, Sergeant Major McCrary served in the office of the 18th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.  During this tour, he attended Advanced Course where he was selected as the Honor Graduate.  In July 2019, Sergeant Major McCrary was promoted to First Sergeant and was assigned orders to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Company G.
         
         During his tour with 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, Sergent Major McCrary deployed to Okinawa in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit as the Mechanized Company aboard the USS Germantown.  Sergeant Major McCrary participated in numerous exercises such as MAGTF Warfighting Excercise, Mountain Warfare Exercise in Bridgeport, California, and Summer Fury. Sergeant Major McCrary attended and graduated from SEPME and subsequently received orders to Headquarters Battalion, First Marine Division where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Headquarters Company.

         In February of 2023, Sergeant Major McCrary was promoted to his current rank and received orders to Recruiting Station Ohio, where he currently serves as the Recruiting Station Sergeant Major.

             Sergeant Major McCrary has an Associate's Degree from Central Texas College.  His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (x2), Navy Commendation Medal (x3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (x3), and Combat Action Ribbon.
