Major Berger was born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1988. In May 2011 he graduated from North Carolina State
University and was commissioned in the Marine Corps active duty through the ROTC program. In December 2011
he graduated The Basic School and in March 2012 he graduated Infantry Officer’s Course.
He was assigned as Platoon Commander, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines. From May 2012 to June 2014
he served as rifle platoon commander, H&S Company executive officer, and rifle company executive officer in 1st
Battalion, 9th Marines. During this time he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Upon return from Afghanistan he was reassigned to 2d Battalion, 6th Marines to serve as the 81mm Mortar
Platoon Commander. He serve in this billet from June 2014 through May 2016. During this time he deployed on the
USS Kearsarge as part of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Upon return from deployment he received orders to Alpha Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team Company as a
platoon commander. From June 2016 to June 2018 he deployed as a platoon commander to Naval Station
Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Naval Station Bahrain, Manama, Bahrain. Upon return from Bahrain he was assigned
as the Security Force Regiment Current Operations Officer. He was selected to attend resident Expeditionary
Warfare School for Academic Year 2019.
From July 2019 to October 2021 he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2d Marines where he served as Company
Commander, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 2d Marines. He deployed as company commander to Okinawa, Japan
for Unit Deployment Program 20.2 and while deployed executed Korean Marine Exchange Program 21.1. Upon
return from deployment he served as the Operations Officer, 1st Battalion, 2d Marines as the unit transformed
and began training ad experimenting as 2d Marine Division’s Infantry Battalion Experiment 2030 force supporting
Force Design 2030. He was then selected as a Recruiting Station Commanding Officer alternate, and subsequently
received orders to Recruiting Station Columbus, Ohio where he currently serves.
Major Berger has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. Major Berger’s personal awards include the Navy
Commendation Medal, gold star in lieu of second award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and
Combat Action Ribbon.
