Major Rigby graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in May 2008 and reported directly to Officer Candidate School. Upon graduation, Major Rigby commissioned and reported to The Basic School in June 2008. He attended Basic Officer Course (BOC) 5-0from June 2008 to November 2008 and then attended the Infantry Officer Course 2-09 from January 2009 to April 2009.

In April 2009, Major Rigby reported to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3d Marine Division and served as an Infantry Platoon Commander, Company A, until May 2011. During this time Major Rigby deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 09.2 with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines to the Nawa District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. In June 2011, Major Rigby was assigned as the Executive Officer, Company A, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines until March 2012. During this time, Major Rigby deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in the Garmsir District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. From March 2011 to June 2012 Major Rigby was assigned as the Company Commander, Company A, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines and deployed in support of Joint Exercise Hammel in Townsville, Australia.

Major Rigby transferred to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia in June 2012 and was assigned as a Warfighting Instructor in the Maneuver Section. In December 2012, Major Rigby reported to The Infantry Officer Course as an instructor with duties as the urban combat, combat orders, planning, and platoon field exercise primary instructor. He was later the Class Advisor for Infantry Officer Course Class 4-14.

In May 2015, Major Rigby reported to Expeditionary Warfare School as a student. Upon graduation in June 2016, he was assigned as the Tactics Officer in Charge of Officer Candidate School aboard Brown Field, Quantico, Virginia until August 2016. Major Rigby departed Virginia and reported to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In September 2016 he assumed command of Company A, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines until November 2017. During this time, he deployed Company A in support of Unit Deployment Program 3-17 in Okinawa, Japan. Upon relinquishing command, Major Rigby was assigned as the Operations Officer of 1st Battalion, 8th Marines and deployed in support of Marine Rotational Force – Europe 19.2 to Norway. Upon his return, he assumed the duties as the Executive Officer for 1st Battalion, 8th Marines until May of 2020.
